Think �camper� and you probably summon up an image of Charles Hawtrey in Carry on Camping, rather than Gordon Gecko, but today�s camper isn�t all socks, sandals and khaki shorts. Revealing new research from Led Lenser, world leaders in LED technology, shows a massive 69% of people are turning up their noses at the lack of facilities when camping and are shunning the simple life in favour of a more luxurious experience.
Whilst over half the population would be keen to �camp it up� (52%), the research shows the majority of people are part of a new generation of camping yuppies. 40% of people said they would have to stay on a camp site with immaculate toilet and shower facilities, whilst for 29% of people only a camp site with top end facilities such as pool, shop, clubhouse and picnic area, will do.
When it comes to the nations camping accommodation;
A whopping 44% of tent owners have invested in top of the range, luxury options, (complete with windows and porches) and fashionable designer versions.
19% of people admitted to getting back to nature in style, in camper vans with tent extensions.
The yuppie camper�s biggest bug bears are insects (42%) and animal excrement (21%).
The survey also showed that whilst people still want a view of the stars and fresh air, most of us want a few indulgent items. The nations top four camping must haves are; A pillow A blow up bed A good quality torch A mobile phone
Rather than packing a stove or first aid kit, six people actually opted for portable hair straighteners!
