UNIQUE JOINT VENTURE MEANS MORE PITCHES FOR CAMPERS

The Camping and Caravanning Club has entered into a unique and historic joint venture with the Forestry Commission to manage its portfolio of 24 Forest Holiday cabin and camping and caravanning sites.

The first public, private partnership of its kind, between a Government body and a not-for-profit organisation from the tourism sector, looks set to unite the Forest Holidays experience with the UK's best, award-winning camp site provider.

The Camping and Caravanning Club is set to invest 10 million in the venture, with works starting shortly and taking around five years to complete. When finished, members and non-members alike will have access to 5,000 extra camp site pitches - that's 50% more than it currently offers via its UK Club Sites network.

In total, a predicted 40 million of private sector capital investment is due to be spent on Forest Holiday Sites. All sites will be sensitively upgraded to become the best in Britain, whilst still retaining the woodland charm and simplicity which make them amazing places to visit.

The 21 Camping and Caravanning Sites will see toilet and washroom facilities upgraded to the Club's high standards which will ensure the best possible camping holiday for all. The three Cabin Sites will be upgraded and a further site is planned. Cabin Sites will create more opportunities for those wishing to experience these incredible forest hideaways from an alternative perspective.

Speaking at the launch of the new partnership, David Welsford, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: 'We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the Forestry Commission's Forest Holiday Sites. These sites are simply beautiful.

"The Club's 400,000 strong membership has been growing by about 10% each year and camp site space is at a premium. More people want the highest quality camp sites and places to stay that are in the areas they want to visit. This joint venture enables us to provide extra pitches and will be an asset to be proud of."
