TRUSTY CAMPER VAN SUPPORTS HAMPSHIRE CYCLISTS' CHARITY CYCLING TOUR

Adrian Flux Insurance keeps the cost of bike ride down

Road trips to raise money for charity take a lot of planning to keep expenses down while at the same time maintaining essential support and safety. When Josie Curtis, 24, and Dizzy Curtis, 23, from Gosport, Hampshire, planned their July bike tour from Le Havre to Geneva to raise money for the Ellen MacArthur Trust, they decided to use the familys trusty 13 year old camper van as a back-up vehicle.

"My younger brother, Beau, was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was 11 years old and last year went on one of the sailing holidays organised by the Ellen MacArthur Trust," says Josie. "He enjoyed it so much that I wanted to raise money so that other children like Beau can get a break away from their illnesses, and to say thank you to the Trust for showing so much care."

The journey is taking Josie and Dizzy through Paris, Dijon, Besancon and on into Switzerland, some 500 to 600 miles depending on the exact route. Two family friends, Emma Paton and Claudia Brito, are driving the camper van loaded with spares and essential supplies, including peanut butter (Josies favourite), pasta, electrolyte drinks and (of course) plenty of Deep Heat!

One element of the preparations that initially proved difficult was arranging insurance cover for the camper van drivers. Claudia holds a Brazilian driving licence and many insurers make it difficult to add additional drivers to a policy for a short period if they dont have a full UK driving licence.

"Once I realised that the insurance was going to be expensive so I approached our insurers Adrian Flux Insurance for advice," said Mrs Curtis. "They were really supportive and not only arranged the cover but gave it to us for free."

"We were only too happy to help," said Gerry Bucke of Flux. "So, to keep their costs down, weve added the two support drivers to the policy at no extra expense and weve waived the excess on the policy. Hopefully they wont need to claim but if they do it wont cost them anything."

This is good news for the Curtis family and the Ellen MacArthur Trust. There are fewer expenses to cover on the trip which means more money for the charity.
