Caravan and Motorhome Club, planting trees to fulfil its pledge to The Queen’s Green Canopy

The Caravan and Motorhome Club were proud to have pledged its support to The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year. Now, more than ever, the initiative will leave a lasting memory in recognition of Queen Elizabeth II’s lifetime of service.

The Club committed to planting 2,022 trees in 2022 in support of The Queen’s Green Canopy and is delighted to announce it has already exceeded this target.

Earlier in the year, to announce the Club’s commitment to QGC, three wild cherry and three silver birch trees were ceremonially planted at Chapel Lane Club Campsite by television presenter, journalist and Club member Matt Allwright; singer, TV presenter and farmer JB Gill; Club Chairman Grenville Chamberlain OBE; Club Director General Nick Lomas and Club Director of Marketing and Membership Services, Harvey Alexander.

The Club operates a network of over 200 campsites in the UK and the planting of over 2,022 trees was spread across these campsites during the official tree planting season (October to March 2021/22 and October to March 2022/23).

Nick Lomas, Director General of the Caravan and Motorhome Club said, “It gives me great pleasure to announce that we have exceeded our planting target and the Club will continue to invest and plant trees for the enjoyment of our members and the benefit of the environment on an ongoing basis.   Trees help to curtail climate change, by capturing and storing carbon, reducing pollution, reducing temperature and preventing flooding. Many Caravan and Motorhome Club campsites are located near woodland or have woodland walks nearby. Walking through trees and woodland is also a wonderful way to enhance our mood and improve our mental and physical wellbeing.”

To aid the success of this initiative the Caravan and Motorhome Club has planted native trees that are purchased from suppliers that are ‘Plant Healthy’ certified. Plant Healthy aims to reduce pests and diseases to ensure that the trees survive and thrive when planted. The native trees that have been planted on the Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite network include Green Beech, Field Maple, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Common Alder, Common Oak, Rowan, Hornbeam, and Bird Cherry. The Club is proud to play a part in being custodians of the great outdoors for future generations and to help enhance the British countryside.

Lomas continues, “It has been a great privilege to support The Queen’s Green Canopy as this leaves yet another wonderful and lasting tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.   Tree planting is one of the most engaging and environmentally friendly activities that people can take part in and help to enrich the planet.  The benefits of tree planting and the removal of carbon from the atmosphere benefit the wider population, not just those who live or stay the most locally.   The Caravan and Motorhome Club is on a continuous journey of responsible actions to reduce our environmental impact and help our members, guests, and future generations, get more from the great outdoors.”
