We make no apologies for a return visit to this superb site deep in Herefordshire’s golden Valley. This is without doubt possibly one of the best sites in the whole country.
With a mixture of holiday caravans and touring pitches, separated from each other, a very good pub and restaurant serving meals with a slight Mediterranean flavour, a large children’s playground complete with real tractor, a nine hole golf course, and for dog owners a ten acre dog walk, together with peace and quiet this is the ideal place for that “away from it all” break.
The holiday caravans all have neat gardens and the overall impression is one of tidiness and cleanliness, there are 114 caravans here but there is no feeling of being crowded, it seems that there are plenty of people waiting to come on to the site but limited space.
Wayne Jones together with his wife Sarah have worked hard on the site and their efforts have been rewarded with the five star rating from the English Tourist Board together with a number of “best site” awards from trade magazines. The latest addition is a small, but good, farm shop in the mill yard next to the mill restaurant, milk and papers are available there.
We had a “Mothering Sunday” lunch in the restaurant and we have to say that it was extremely good food and very good value, well worth going to.
If you want to leave your caravan at the site there is a secure compound and Postern Mill can provide a seasonal pitch with a “store and tow” service. You can stay on this lovely site and never have to tow your ‘van.
If this is the course of action that you want to take it seems to us that there are so many interesting things and places to see and visit that it would take several seasons for you to exhaust the outing possibilities, this being the case your ‘van could quite happily be left in the capable hands of the postern Mill crew.
Alternatively you buy a Holiday Caravan to put on the very well landscaped “static” part of this site.
Postern Mill is one of the parks in the “Best of British” chain of superior camp sites which has 45 sites in the chain, they are affiliated to the “Holland Tulip Parks” and also the French “Les Castels” chain. Wayne Jones is at the moment one of the directors of the chain.
All the pitches are fully serviced so for the duration of your stay the water chores are things of the past, for those who cannot do without the magic box there are aerial sockets in each bollard so an excellent picture is always available, and the waste water can be piped away to the pitch drain.
All in all one would have to go a long way to better Postern Mill, both for on site facilities and for surrounding attractions. There possibly better sites but we have not yet found one.
Prices for 2008 are from £15 (low season) to £20 (high season) Awnings, children, TV hook up, dogs (maximum two), and electricity are all extras but it is quite obvious that most of the fees are used to improve and maintain the park.
