OMNISTOR FOR ADRIA

On our recent annual visit to the Three Counties Caravan and Motor Caravan Show at the Three Counties Showground in the beautiful town of Malvern we were attracted to the idea of having an awning fitted to our Adria Iszola.
Our ill fated Lunar Premier had a Fiamma model fitted and we had missed the convenience of just winding it out when we wanted to.

Wandering around the stalls we came across a Fiamma stall and also an Omnistor one in the shape of Rose Awnings and Blinds from Poole.
In conversation with the Fiamma gentleman it transpired that he had no facilities on site to be able to fit awnings if one was bought, in addition the fitting involved a fitting charge of somewhere around £100, he didn’t know the exact figure.

We then went to the Omnistor stand where fitting was free, and may we say pretty instant, the awnings were a little more expensive but taking into account the free fitting were on a par with the Fiamma models. We went mad and purchased a four metre long Omnistor 5002 model, fitting would be in approximately 45 minutes, time enough to leisurely wander back to the Adria.

We had been worried that holes were going to be drilled in the side of our precious ‘van, not only that but we would be watching them being drilled, ouch!
At the appointed time John Rose, the proprietor, came along and started the procedure.
His first task was to survey the inside of the caravan to find out the most suitable places to fit the three brackets that held the awning to the side.
The front bracket was the hardest as the most favourite place was behind the electrical panel over the door, (on the offside). The panel came off and due to the, unusual, length of the wire was able to rest on the settee backrest.

John marked the positions of the holes on the exterior with a marker and set about drilling the dreaded holes, five in all, and to the exact size of the bolts.
Plenty of sealant went onto, and into, these holes and the brackets offered up, nuts were finger tightened on the inside, outside the awning was fitted to the brackets and fastened by screws in these brackets.
The last task inside was to tighten up the nuts and replace the control panel, on two of the brackets a plastic cover was fitted to make the job tidy.

John then ran a bead of white sealant along the top edge of the box so that rain would not run down between the box and the ‘van.

We then operated the awning to make sure everything was in order and to get us familiar with it, all worked perfectly.
The whole operation took about an hour, great care was taken, no mess occurred, and the whole work looked so easy, the mark of an expert.

Don’t worry about holes in the caravan, it doesn’t leak, we had torrential rain the next day and “snug as a bug”.
