THE VEHICLE

For our odyssey around France we were able to be the first to lay our hands on the new for 2007 Elddis Autocirrus 220.
This is a pretty, low profile, two berth motor caravan based on the new 2.2 litre Peugeot chassis. An end lounge, side kitchen and side washroom layout. We lived in this machine for twenty days and in that time we got to know her very well. The washroom was outstanding and the kitchen had stacks of work area.

On the road the 220 was comfortable, no body creaks intruded and the 2.2 engine was almost always powerful enough, slopes however soon had the driver stirring the gearlever. A cruising speed of 70 to 75 mph was able to be maintained on the Autoroutes with relative ease giving a fuel consumption of around 23 mpg.

We travelled just short of 2000 miles (1873 exactly) with the Elddis and grew to rely and trust her.
The “U” shaped end lounge made up into a double bed of four feet six inches wide and this proved to be very comfortable, a bonus was also that it was not too difficult to make up.

Everything felt pretty well made and in most cases well assembled, there were some minor niggles but this was one of the first models off the production line.
We had some positive feedback about the shape from fellow campers, we actually thought that it was very pleasant. The upside of the low profile models, apart from their looks is the lower fuel consumption, they are of course more streamlined.

All in all the Autocirrus is a very pleasant machine, to live in and to drive, and represents cracking value for money compared to others of a similar size and layout.
If we could have a few comments we would want a larger fresh water tank, 45 litres, this has to be filled every day. In common with a great many other motor caravans the Autocirrus might be a little inconvenienced in cold weather.
