GB Privilege, Britain’s premier motorhome tour operator, is gearing itself up to do its bit for the environment, by fully offsetting the carbon dioxide that it produces to make it a CarbonZero company by 2008. Whilst motorhoming is not nearly as damaging to the environment as travelling by aeroplanes and staying at hotels, it does however create carbon dioxide, which is causing climate change throughout the planet. Bob Thornton, Director for GB Privilege said: “We take steps to ensure that our vehicles are as fuel efficient as possible, such as well maintained engines, and properly inflated tyres, so that they create as little carbon dioxide as possible. The case remains though that they do emit carbon. One of the simplest ways to offset this carbon is through tree planting, as trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow. “With this in mind we advise a specialist company, Co2balance, how many miles are driven by each motorhome on our tours, and they then plant and maintain the relevant number of trees, thereby offsetting the carbon that the company creates. Co2balance own woodland throughout the UK in which they plant the relevant number of trees, depending on the carbon dioxide emissions of each of their clients”. Bob Thornton added: “The people at GB Privilege have children and grandchildren of their own and feel that by taking this action now we can “do our bit” to preserve the planet for them and future generations. It seems a small price to pay to allow our customers to enjoy their motorhome holidays with complete peace of mind, as well as helping everybody’s grandchildren”.
