THIS IS A MONSTER CARAVAN:
Indeed it is, we are going to look at all monsters to-day, over 21ft long in fact, there is plenty of room inside and although it is a nominal four berth it would make a very comfortable two berth.
The previous owners have been obsessed with fitting extra shelves, there are five in this Lunar.
WE WILL NOW LOOK AT THE OUTSIDE:
The front panel, which generally gets all the knocks, is pristine as is the “A” frame cover which has no telltale black rubber marks from a carelessly placed jockey wheel.
The offside has the Truma water heater flue followed by the pump inlet, the mains inlet and battery box is next, towards the rear is the under bed space locker door, right at the back is the Thetford toilet access door and rinse water filler.
The rear panel is also looking unmarked, it also feels strong but as with most Lunars there are three waste outlets, why?
The nearside houses a 230 volt socket, the entrance door is forward of the front axle and that is the extent of the fittings and openings on this side.
The whole sits on an AL-KO chassis, all the corner steadies are clean and well greased, the wheels and tyres look in good order as does everything else on the vast underside.
WE WILL NOW LOOK INSIDE:
Of course, the kitchen is opposite the door, fridge at the front, four burner Spinflo cooker at the rear and a drawer and cupboard in the centre, a stainless steel sink is fitted so the kitchen has the equipment but very little work space, there is hardly enough room for a kettle so we feel that the cook may well be in a mood if required to produce more than a very simple meal.
The “L” shape lounge compensates a little, it does not encourage entertaining so maybe the cook would not do much cooking.
The leg of the L runs towards the offside, the cushions are comfortable and in a green, terracotta, and fawn squared pattern which looks, to our eyes, nice.
Opposite the kitchen is the rather small, for four, wardrobe with a cupboard forward of it, this houses the Truma heater, behind the wardrobe on the nearside and the kitchen on the offside is the bedroom with the fixed double bed, the mattress looked a little on the thin side to us.
Behind the bedroom, across the whole rear of the ‘van is the washroom, circular shower in the nearside corner, washbasin more or less in the centre against the rear wall, and the swivel toilet in the offside corner. There are four cupboards in the washroom and plenty of lights, this washing area is workable but the dressing part of the operation would have to be carried out outside, so if you had a full complement on board you would all have to be very friendly.
This Lunar is a nice looking, and feeling, caravan, there are compromises but aren’t there always, there is plenty of storage, but care would have to taken not to take too much advantage of the huge under double bed space, if not the maximum weight could so easily be exceeded and as this extra weight would be behind the axle the outfit’s stability could be compromised.
WHO WILL BUY THIS BIG LUNAR?
In our opinion a couple, this couple will be a fairly solitary pair who do not, or will not, entertain very much, these “L” lounges are not ideal for that and the free standing table would have to be deployed most of the time, there is no where else to eat, so a couple who don’t entertain, have a fairly hefty car, and like eating out with not a great deal of cooking being carried out in the caravan.
If this sounds like you whip down and have a look, you get a whole years’ warranty with the Lexon.
