Classic Camper Club

About the Company

The club was formed in 1991 as an organisation that was hoped would bring together like-minded individuals who shared a love of period, classic and historic camper vans and motorhomes.

Back in 91′, before the electronic technology explosion, there was little in the way of information available to owners of the classic ‘vans, with owners and enthusiasts being scattered throughout many different clubs and/or registers according to their particular marque of vehicle.

After an appeal in both Classic Car Weekly and Motorcaravan, Motorhome Monthly (MMM), the club was very quickly up and running, and by October of 91’ the inaugural meeting of the early members was held at the Malvern classic car event.

By July of 1992 the club had recruited enough members to hold its first ‘national rally’, and almost sixty classic ‘vans from the 50s, 60s and 70s gathered at Hatton Country World near Warwick.

Since that time the club has extended its entry date for vehicles, which was originally set at 1979, and has now been moved to a rolling twenty-one years.

When the club was first conceived, the majority of classic ‘vans were based on such base vehicles as the Bedford CA, Standard Atlas, Commer, MKI Transit and BMC J2 and JU250, and although there are still examples of such early ‘vans still in use, their numbers have declined significantly since the early 90s.

It was for this reason that the vehicle date for inclusion into the club ranks was extended some time ago, and we are now able to cater for the more modern classic camper vans and motorhomes such as the Renault Trafic, Talbot Express (and Fiat Ducato), Bedford Rascal and all of the different chassis used for ‘van construction throughout the 1980s.

What we have ended up with at the present time is a fascinating mix of older classic camper vans such as the original Bedford Dormobiles, Commer (various conversions), Jennings Roadrangers and the like, but with a wonderful compliment of examples from both the 70s and 80s.

A large club gathering today is a delightful sight, with a vast mixture of vehicles, conversions and of course, colour!
