SUPPORT SRI LANKA FOUNDATION
Asian Tsunami Boxing Day 2004 - Over 300,000 people lost their lives, thousands of homes and livelihood disappeared in waves; families were washed away, never to be found; fishing fleets smashed up like match wood; images unbearable to watch.
About Our Charity:
We began to help the Tsunami victims of Sri Lanka on the 27th of December 2004 by buying new baby clothes and medicines but our problem was that no charity wanted goods they only wanted money.
Eventually we found a charity in Birmingham who was shipping out a container of aid and our boxes were thankfully included in that shipment. We continued to collect aid such as food, clothing, toys, blankets etc and by July 2005 three 40ft containers (approx 75 tonnes of aid) were shipped to Sri Lanka.
Our Fundraising began in January 2005 and in May 2005 we visited Sri Lanka on our first humanitarian trip taking with us more aid and cash. We have made several humanitarian trips and are delighted to see that improvements are happening. We can see rebuilding going on. Boats now fill the seas and some livelihoods are being improved.
However there is still so much more to do. Family homes, Hospitals and Schools are to be rebuilt.
Our Aims:
*To support both emergency and long term relief and development projects.
*We are an organisation specifically set up to help the people their animals and villages who have been affected by this disaster.
*We have the support of locals who have intimate knowledge of the situation on the ground, and who can identify which are areas most in need of help.
*To give back the livelihoods to affected people.
*Provide scholarships and retraining.
*To support the tourist industry by promoting Sri Lanka as an excellent holiday destination.
