New EU Passports for Pet Travel Outside Britain In July 2004, the new EU Pet Passport replaced the PETS1 and PETS5 documents required for travelling outside Britain with your pet. Before obtaining the new format EU Pet Passport, you will need to make an appointment with your Local Veterinary Inspector vet who will carry out the necessary procedures required to issue a pet passport. Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) Regulations The pet travel scheme (PETS) is a legal requirement for all cats and dogs travelling outside the UK. EU Pet Passports are available from a Local Veterinary Inspector. Under the regulations of the pet travel scheme, pets are permitted to enter or re-enter Britain from approved countries without undergoing six months' quarantine, provided that they have been:

* microchipped
* blood tested
* vaccinated
* general health check carried out.

Dog Vaccinations Required for Travelling Outside Britain Before travelling outside Britain, your dog will need to be vaccinated against rabies. Details of these kinds of dog vaccinations must be recorded in a very specific manner to be valid for travel purposes. The certification must include the following items:

* date of birth/age of dog (if known)
* microchip number (and date fitted, if known)
* type, name and batch number of rabies vaccine
*
date that next rabies vaccine booster injection will be required.
