Another big one!

Yes, we are looking at four large caravans this time, this Cameo will need a large, serious, 4x4 to tow it, its kerbweight needs to be at least 2203kg to stay within the 85 percent guide line. For such a large caravan the kitchen space is very limited, but the double bed looks very comfortable.

Let’s look at the outside

This is a large looking caravan, the front is in good condition but the 12N and 12S sockets have been relocated to the front of the lower locker, yes it is a good idea to have removable leads but where these are would mean that the leads would have to be pretty long. There is a light that will shine into the gas bottle locker, the gas always runs out at night.

On the offside the mains inlet and battery box is first, the fridge vents are just forward of the front axle, then comes the Alde flue followed by the water pump inlet, then comes the under bed storage locker door, last but by no means least the Thetford toilet door and rinse water filler occupies the rear.

The near side has a gas barbeque point, this is followed by a wet locker, the entrance door is forward of the axle and that is all on this side.

The rear panel has “jewel” rear lights, chrome grab handles, a high level brake light, and feels strong.

The AL-KO chassis looks in excellent order, the spare wheel is carried underneath on an AL-KO spare wheel carrier, wheels and tyres look in good condition, all the steadies are clean and greased, excellent.

OK we will look inside now

The immediate impression is one of being darker than is normal, this is because the woodwork is much deeper in colour than virtually any other caravan, we think that the original models called the wood “American Cherry” we hope that is right.

The kitchen is directly opposite the entrance door, the front lounge is the twin settees with a chest of drawers in the centre, opposite the kitchen is the wardrobe, behind the wardrobe on the nearside and the kitchen on the offside is the bedroom with a very comfortable looking double bed, behind the bedroom running right across the ‘van is the washroom.

This room has the round shower on the nearside corner, the washbasin against the rear wall, and the swivel toilet in the offside rear corner.

The cushions are without knee rolls and are very comfortable to sit upon and would be much easier to make up the bed without these dreaded rolls.

How will the cook fare?

On a wing and a prayer we would think! The kitchen is fully equipped but very short on workspace, there is a small pull out shelf but we have found these to be virtually useless, maybe it’s us.

The Electrolux fridge is at the front and the Stoves domestic style cooker with self ignition is at the rear, in the centre is a narrow cutlery drawer and below that a narrow cupboard. At the rear of the kitchen there are some cupboards and there is plenty of storage above, the kitchen appears to be well lit which is always a blessing.

In mitigation, almost to make up for the kitchen deficiencies, the bed has a nice thick mattress which looks really dreamy.

Who will buy this Bessacarr?

We think that it will be a couple who want to be noticed, and who already have, or are willing to buy a monster tow car. They will be a couple who go south in the winter for the sun and spend some months there, the Cameo would be quite suitable for that.

They would need to use the caravan for longer periods than one or two days as it is a large lump to keep hitching every day or so.
