What a dinky little caravan
It is is’nt it, ideal for the couple who don’t have a huge tow car, about 1250kg kerbweight would do, but who want to get away for extended trips.
Everything you really need is installed so a quick trip to the Cotswolds or an annual holiday to the Loire valley would be within the Avondale’s scope.
Can we look at the outside now
Certainly, before we start we must point out that none of the four caravans that we are looking at have been serviced and if we should mention anything that seems in need of attention it will be renewed or put right before the caravan is sold.
The front panel is in good condition, on the Avondale models the front locker is shallow, just big enough to hold the “few” items we all carry, the reason is that all ranges from this manufacturer carry the gas bottles in a side locker and the spare wheel in a dedicated well in the floor.
There are no dents or dings on the body to mar the appearance and once the outside has had a good clean it will look very good.
The AL-KO chassis is in good condition as are the tyres and wheels so one could be confident that this caravan will give years of good service from the running gear.
OK the outside is good what about the inside?
The layout is entirely conventional, the twin settees at the front have a chest of drawers in the centre, the bedding lockers have drop down doors so you do not have to lift the cushions every time the duvets are put away. There is a shelf over the front and two cupboards over each settee.
On the offside behind the settee is the wardrobe, a reasonable size for two people, and behind that is the corner shower room. This, of necessity, is rather small and in our eyes is the “night time loo trip” type of size.
On the near side behind the settee is a “welsh” dresser into which the fridge is incorporated, and above it is the fair sized cocktail cabinet.
The end kitchen is against the rear wall.
Discuss the kitchen
Well a rather reserved OK. As a quart into a pint pot won’t generally go these small caravans are always many compromises rolled into one. This kitchen is no exception, although having said that there is room for a kettle and an electric socket is in the right place to be able to plug it in.
The four burner domestic style cooker has no self ignition and looks in very clean condition, the oven in fact does not look as if it has been used, maybe it hasn’t.
There are plenty of cupboards both overhead and underneath, in the “L” of the kitchen are three large pullout wire drawers which are extremely handy not only for the vegetables that you may never use but for many other items.
Who will buy this Avondale?
We think that, obviously a couple, who have had an older caravan and like the pastime, but want a few more luxuries than their present ‘van has.
They might now get interested in travelling further afield when they realise that this Chiltern is quite capable of looking after them.
